Ravine Vineyard Chardonnay WINS Lieutenant Governor’s Award

St. Davids, ON Tuesday, June 16 – 2013 Ravine Vineyard Chardonnay WINS Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Ontario Wines. Only 10 wines were awarded to bear the official Lieutenant Governor’s emblem for 2015. This is the third Lieutenant Governor’s Award accepted by Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Ontario Wines was created in 2011 to promote viticulture and winemaking excellence in Ontario. The awards are directed in partnership with the Canadian Food & Wine Institute at Niagara College with the support of the Wine Council Ontario, Grape Growers of Ontario and the Winery and Grower Alliance of Ontario.

There have been over 1,000 wines submitted within the first 4 years. The wines are judged by the most prominent sommeliers and wine experts in Ontario. The annual ceremony will be held in Queen’s Park where the Lieutenant Governor will honor the winning wineries and their excellence in Ontario winemaking.

2013 Ravine Vineyard Chardonnay has also won SILVER at the Decanter World Wine Awards and BRONZE at the Ontario Wine Awards. Zoltan Szabo from Kwäf Wines gives 2013 Ravine Chardonnay 92+ Points describing it as “a connoisseur’s Chardonnay.”

Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery is a family owned biodynamic and organic winery located on St. Davids Bench in Niagara-on-the-lake. Ravine opened in 2008 and has been recognized for producing VQA varietals on a farm that is steeped in history. Also known as the Upper Lowrey Farm, the family has milled, farmed and canned fruit at Ravine for 5 generations. The farm is known to be one of the first commercial grape vineyards in the area with 500 vines planted in 1869.
